The problem with churches getting involved in social action is that they don't always have the resources or experience to do a good job of it. An antidote to this is for a church to employ a social worker. Of course!
Provocative! Two thoughts: 1. This is a good reason to pray that God grows some churches large, so that they can employ this.
2. You shouldn't employ a social worker unless your church is large, or otherwise carefully planned. Otherwise there would be a very real danger to confuse what your 'core business' as a church was.
The other way that any church can get involved is to give money to organisations already doing a good job. Oh and to just care for struggling people that you know personally.
Fiona is a proud Tasmanian who now calls Chile home. Both Hobart and Santiago sit beneath mountains, but the mountains are very different and their cities too. With God's help, Fiona will help her Chilean sisters make sense of the Bible, get to know its Author better and learn what it means to live as loved, forgiven people.

Fair calls.
