Peter Carey's Parrot and Oliver in America just entered triumphantly onto my list of favourite books. Gosh it's superb. I've only ever read Oscar and Lucinda before, which was good, but not all that. What are his others like?

Yay! So glad you liked it. I thought it was awesomely written, but also a little over my head at times. (On that note, watch the December episode of The First Tuesday Book Club for the panel's take - Marieke said she felt "like a politician's wife at a table of bigwigs, where they were all having a laugh at my expense" - my paraphrasing).
If you want to read more PC I highly recommend Bliss, Illywhacker and The True History of the Kelly Gang (actually pretty much everything else he's written, but I haven't read the books between Kelly Gang and P&O).
Wow, thanks so much for stopping by! Yeah, it was pretty wild but I loved that ;). I am definitely up for reading some more of his after this one. Although I might have a burl at reading next month's book first...
Fiona is a proud Tasmanian who now calls Chile home. Both Hobart and Santiago sit beneath mountains, but the mountains are very different and their cities too. With God's help, Fiona will help her Chilean sisters make sense of the Bible, get to know its Author better and learn what it means to live as loved, forgiven people.

Happy reading!
I didn't even make it through Oscar and Lucinda... but I know it's my duty as an Australian to give Carey another go sometime.
