Things to live by

Here's some things that I've been learning and living by over the last few months:

Whatever my talents, I'm an ordinary person.

There are things I'm at a loss to understand, and that's okay.

There are many good things in my life, for which it makes sense to be thankful.

There are also bad things, as there are for everyone.

God is over the good and bad. He has always been there for me and has shown he is worthy of trust.

Hi, I just wanted you to know that I read your blog and find it very encouraging. I have been away from Christ, and his Church, for 13 years, so I suppose I am a bit of a prodigal. There are things that I find very difficult about 'Church Culture' - if anyone is doing a good job of loving Christ and hating the Church, that would be me - but love reading your blog. A breath of fresh air.

Many thanks

Hey Anon I'm so glad you've been finding my blog encouraging. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know.

Obviously I don't know why you hate the Church so much. My guess is that they/we treated you badly - and that is totally not on. Then again, I don't reckon the Church claims to be perfect . . . but still, bad things should not be . . .

Having said this though - and I'm sorry to be abrupt when I don't even know you - I don't think it's possible to love Christ and hate the Church. *He* loves the Church even with all her faults. He loves the Church so much he died for her! So give us another go, hey.

Ah... 'The Christian Rebuke'. Typical. Instead of encouragement, the 'telling off' couched in the nicest possible euphism. Because theology is more important than people, of course. And you people think you can say anything to people outside of your immediate comfort zone if you pretty it up enough.

I have never left a comment on a blog before, and was, simply, looking for a bit of encouragement. Pity.

Do you always need a cheer-squad when you kick people in the teeth?

Such vanity! More concerned about what your reformed, evangelical friends will think of your response and it's 'rightness'...
